DESCRIPTION:The Marlborough Community Coalition and 5th City Council District members Darrell Curls and Ryana Parks-Shaw are sponsoring a neighborhood cleanup on Saturday\, September 21\, from 8 am to noon at the Center Academy for Success (8434 Paseo Blvd.). The Kansas City Public Works Department will be present to accept bulky items such as old furniture\, leaves and brush\, tires (with or without rims) and trash\, at no charge. The cleanup is open to all Kansas City\, Missouri residents.  \nMost electronics may be recycled for free. There will be a $5 fee for computer monitors\, $10 fee for any item containing Freon and $20-$50 fee for TVs depending on type and size.

SUMMARY:Free Health Fair @ Holmeswood Baptist Church
DESCRIPTION:Free vaccinations and health screenings with a limited number of incentive payments for participating offered on a first-come first-served basis will be available at a free health fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday\, September 21\, at Holmeswood Baptist Church\, 9700 Holmes Rd.\, sponsored by Hickman Mills United Neighborhoods. \nCOVID-19 Pfizer vaccinations for those 5 years old and up and Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 booster shots will be offered\, as well as HPV vaccinations to prevent certain types of cancer for those 9 years old and up. A parent or guardian must be present to provide consent for youth from 5 to 17 years of age. \nDental screenings with giveaways of toothbrushes and other self-care supplies and referrals for free dental care at the University of Missouri Kansas City dental school will be available. \nOther screening will include blood sugar and A1C testing for type 2 diabetes for those 18 years of age and up\, blood pressure checks and screening for those at risk of high blood pressure\, cancer screening and education about ways to lower the risk of developing many common cancers and confidential screening for sexually transmitted infections.\nFor those concerned about the health risks of tobacco use\, trained professionals will give tips on quitting and provide resources to help.\nBesides UMKC\, the other institutions providing screenings and educational services at the fair include University Health and Children’s Mercy Kansas City. Funding for the health fair is provided by Jackson County.
