DESCRIPTION:A speaker series celebrating America’s 250th anniversary\, featuring talks on the events leading to the Revolutionary War\, the drafting of the Declaration of Independence\, and our early years as an independent nation. \n\n\n\nThe series will conclude on July 25th with a presentation by Denise Bullock on “The Role of Women in the American Revolution”. Mrs. Bullock\, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution\, will discuss this topic that has been important to the organization since its founding in 1890. \nWomen supported the cause of American independence from Great Britain by organizing boycotts of British goods\, writing satirical plays\, and inspirational poetry. \nDuring the Revolution\, women kept family farms and businesses going and provided supplies and financial support for the war\, as well as remarkable stories of women who took up arms themselves. Mrs. Bullock will also discuss the often-forgotten role of native and enslaved women. \nLeawood resident Denise McNickle Bullock is the current State Regent of the Kansas Society of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked in the radio business and corporate sales for several years. She joined DAR in 1982 and is a member of the Sagamore Chapter in Leawood. She has served in many positions within the Sagamore Chapter\, the Kansas Society\, and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
