For Hire: 600 Jobs at Cerner
College degree not necessary

Cerner Corporation is in the midst of hiring about 600 patient account specialists who do not need college degrees for its Realization Campus at 10234 Marion Park Dr. in South Kansas City.
These medical billing positions start at $15 an hour, or more with experience, and newly hired employees are eligible for benefits from day one, according to Maria Gibbs, a recruiting director for Cerner.
Speaking to the May 14 meeting of the South Kansas City Alliance, Gibbs said new employee classes start every two weeks, and employees go through about a month of paid training before assuming their regular duties.
According to the Cerner website, patient account specialists are responsible for reviewing, correcting and submitting claims to payers for physicians and hospitals. This involves communicating with patients, government agencies and third party payers to gather, process and record the information needed for appropriate reimbursement.
The website said applicants for these positions need a high school diploma or GED, must be willing to work overtime or irregular hours as needed and must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Kansas City area. At least one year of health care billing experience is preferred, but not required.
