Reappointments, parcel tax increases and upcoming events including the Whiskey Run were all topics of conversation at the April 9 meeting of the Martin City Community Improvement District meeting held at Rosehill Winery.

Martin City CID Board of Directors

The April meeting would have been the time to introduce new members to the board of directors had any resigned. However, all chose to continue in their roles for the 2026-27 Board of Directors.

The board members are Chairman Danny Lake (Mac n Seitz); Vice-Chair George Farrill (Rosehill Gardens); Treasurer Nick Mosakowski (Reno’s Powersports); Secretary Carol Siegel (Suburban Lawn & Garden); Chad Powell (Rosehill Winery); Alexa Barkley (State Farm agent), and Rob Sight (Rob Sight Ford). Vickie Wolverton serves as District Manager for the CID, a paid position.

Board votes on property tax increase for parcels located within CID

After board members were reappointed, the first order of business was a vote on a property tax increase for each parcel located within CID boundaries.

A tax of $180 per parcel has been in place since 2005. A new tax of $250.30 — a $70.30 increase — was introduced and approved by all present. Wolverton said the increase was necessary for additional maintenance and beautification especially once Holmes Road improvements are completed by the city.

Taxes collected from each parcel approximate $30,000 a year and fund CID projects. The CID also collects a half cent (0.5%) sales tax on purchases from retail stores within the boundaries. All revenue supports public improvements, security and maintenance within the business district.

Upcoming events in Martin City

The Whiskey Run 5K is planned for Sunday, April 19, beginning at KC Running Co. (200 E 135 St.) at 8 am. The event includes free shots of whiskey after the race by various vendors. The 5K is open to runners and walkers. Wolverton said the event is in need of volunteers. More vendors are welcome to set up tables at the event. And more runners are needed, as registration is down this year, according to Wolverton.

The Oktoberfest 2026 has been set for October 3. The first annual Oktoberfest last year was a surprising big success, according to Wolverton and other board members.

The St. Patrick’s Parade was considered a success despite strong winds, cold temperatures and ensuing snowfall (The morning started off in the mid-60s). Although attendance was smaller than previous parades, high enthusiasm was present, said Wolverton. Additionally, the parade garnered more sponsors than any previous parade.

Other events in Martin City include the weekly Saturday farmers market next to Sidelines, an Art Walk on April 18 at Rosehill Winery and a hoedown at The Martin on April 24.
