The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that the closure of Bannister Road to through traffic has been extended to early October.
Bannister Road has been closed from Marion Park Drive to Parkwood Avenue since May as the U.S. 71 Hwy bridge is being replaced and widened. (See detour routes here.)
This project will include an additional lane on 71 Hwy from Bannister Road to just south of the Hickman Mills Drive interchange near 87th Street. The project includes enhanced pedestrian accommodations beneath the bridge along Bannister Road, improving walkability for those traveling through the corridor on foot. Crews will also rehabilitate existing culverts north and east of the interchange to improve long-term drainage and infrastructure reliability.
Traffic headed north and southbound on 71 Hwy have been rerouted through the on and off ramps.
What remains on schedule for now is the opening of the ramp at 71 Hwy and I-435 in September. Until then, expect these new lane closures:
Tuesday, Sept. 8 between 9 am and 3 pm
- Close the left lane on NB 71 just south of I-435 to Hickman Mills Drive.
- Close the left lane on SB 71 north of Hickman Mills Drive to north of Bannister.
- Close the ramp from Hickman Mills Drive to SB 71.
The state of Missouri is replacing several bridges in the area that are at the end of their service life. More information regarding the Bannister Road closure can be found here.
