Ruskin High School wins South KC Big Impact Award

Ruskin High School was named as the Big Impact Award winner from among ten companies and organizations selected to receive Community Impact Awards for positively impacting south Kansas City at the annual dinner of the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce January 30.
Ruskin was selected through online voting on the Chamber’s website for the many activities of its staff and students to serve the community and support area charities. These include:
Hosting monthly visits by Harvesters mobile food pantry to provide healthy food to needy families; Sponsoring Sock It To Poverty to give socks to an area homeless shelter during the winter; Collecting food for needy families around Halloween through Trick or Treat so Tots Can Eat; Donating personal care and hygiene products to Giving the Basics; Conducting a diaper collection drive for Happy Bottoms; Maintaining a coat closet for needy students and donating unneeded coats to Community Assistance Council; and Helping care for the animals at Wayside Waifs.
Three Trails Community, a church started in south Kansas City just a few years ago, was reportedly another top contender for the Big Impact Award. It received a Community Impact Award for also hosting monthly visits by Harvesters mobile food pantry to the Martin City K-8 School and conducting other community service activities.
