Nothing brings a community together like a good old-fashioned Block Party. For the seventh year, the South KC Chamber of Commerce and Red Bridge Shopping Center are doing just that on Saturday, October 12th from 10am to 3pm.
This year’s Block Party has some new activities. Some highlights include:
Google Fiber will host two face painting artists in their tent, giving children of all ages (and even those young at heart) the chance to be decorated by a professional artist.
Spartan Foundation Repair will have a tent with two caricature artists who will quickly draw a portrait that highlights each of our very best features.
Spire Gas is hosting the Big Truck Zone that will have vehicles from the US Army Reserve, KC Police Department, a fire truck from KCFD, an excavator from Spire Gas and the Rediscover Mental Health Mobile unit. Spire will also have a couple of balloon artists in their tent.
A STEAM Education Zone, sponsored by Metropolitan Community College, will feature presentations from Hickman Mills, Center, and Grandview schools by students showing their STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) related projects. Expect to see robots, rockets, and performing artists highlighted.
Other local groups, including the Center High School Marching Band, Pulse Performing Arts Center students, Integrity Martial Arts practitioners, and local Irish dancers, will perform in the parking lot between Crows Coffee and the Barrio.
There will be plenty of food for guests from Tanners, the Barrio, Crows Coffee, Sweet Granada Chocolates, China Dragon, the Limit, Berries & Honey Charcuterie, and Calebs, along with pop-ups from Mama Leone, Kona Ice, and Taste of Brazil.
For shoppers, Black-Owned KC and Art Garden KC will have over 40 booths from local crafters, makers, and artists with lots of items to browse through.
Blue Bicycle Fitness is even setting up a Pickleball Court right outside their fitness center for guests to enjoy parking lot Pickleball.
Everything will start at 10am on the east and north sides of the shopping center. The event will end at 3 pm. Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to stop by for a wonderful day of being part of the Red Bridge community.
