The UMKC Center for Neighborhoods is offering its 16th free 12-week neighborhood leadership training program on the UMKC campus with classes starting Saturday, February 22, and graduation Saturday, May 17, with all those
who have attended the mandatory classes receiving certificates of completion.
Everyone I have talked to from several different neighborhood groups who have gone through the program have told me how much they have learned from it.
UMKC does require that at least two persons from every neighborhood organization take part in the training sessions so the knowledge they acquire isn’t lost if they move out of their neighborhoods.
Friday, January 31, is the deadline to register. Persons may email neighborhoods@umkc.edu or call 816-235-6931 and ask for LaMonica Upton to register or to get more information.
Classes will be conducted at Katz Hall, 5005 Rockhill Rd, and will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from February 25 through May 13.
There will be at least four mandatory Saturday classes from 9 a.m. to noon, and additional optional Saturday sessions may be scheduled. Complimentary food will be served at all sessions.
