Residents of KCMO can still order a free seedling tree that are generally a little over two feet tall to improve the city’s tree canopy and reduce their homes’ cooling expenses by providing shade, but the number of available trees is going fast, and all the trees of some species are already spoken for.

Still available at press time are Shumard Oak and Chokecherry seedlings, and persons may go online at get.arborday.org/canopycoverkc to order their tree and select a pickup location or home delivery if available.

The free tree program is sponsored by the KCMO city government in partnership with Bridging The Gap and the Arbor Day Foundation.

The Shumard Oak adapts well to urban areas and can withstand air pollution, poor drainage and compacted soil.
