We all do better when we all do better!
As we enter a new year and continue to see way too many politicians attempt to enhance their political ambitions by turning us against one another, I hope more and more of us will follow the above heartfelt advice of local community activist and author Lawrence Marsh who is a retired professor of economics at the University of Notre Dame where he taught graduate and undergraduate economics for 30 years.
Marsh is a member of the Avila University Board of Trustees and served briefly as an adjunct faculty member at Avila, He has authored two books published by Avila University Press about how the U.S. economy can grow in a way that benefits everyone, not just the wealthy and powerful.
His first book, the hard cover “Optimal Money Flow” was published in 2020, and an updated paperback version “Money Flow in a Dynamic Economy” was published in 2024.
Both books clear up a fundamental misunderstanding about how our nation’s economy works that has been promoted by some politicians seeking to pit us against each other.
These politicians often try to mislead folks into believing that the nation’s economic pie is a fixed size, and that if folks who often have not been compensated fairly for their work such as women, ethnic minorities and immigrants are treated fairly that will take money away from white male workers.
But what really happens is the nation’s economic pie gets bigger as all workers are compensated fairly and spend their additional earnings while relying less on government assistance that is a drain on our economy.
Whether some politicians want to admit it or not, the economic fate of all our country’s residents is intertwined, and we really all do better when we all do better!
