Elderly woman trapped in burning home in Waldo

Kansas City fire companies were dispatched to a reported house fire with a trapped occupant in the 100 block of West 85th Street at 10:10 a.m.
The first arriving company reported smoke and fire showing on arrival,  initiating a rescue operation and offensive fire attack. KCFD made entry into the house, finding an elderly female and able to evacuate her from the structure. She was immediately taken to an awaiting ambulance and transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
The fire was placed under control at 10:25 a.m.
Searches were conducted throughout the rest of the structure and came back “all clear.”  One dog was able to get out safely.
City Planning and Dangerous Buildings have been requested to the scene.
A KCFD firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation of a minor injury.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by KCFD.
