Jazz Vespers features award-winning jazz band
Kansas City Jazz Vespers features Alex Abramovitz and his Swingin’ KC Jazz Band on Sunday evening, October 13, 6- 8 pm at the historic First Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri, at the corner of Wornall and Red Bridge Rds.
Alex Abramovitz and his Swingin’ KC Jazz Band was named runners up in the Pitch Magazine Best of Series for Best Jazz Band, Best Jazz Musician (Alex Abramovitz), Best Jazz Event (Saturday Jazz Brunch at the Phoenix) and Best New Local Album (Fountain City Jive). Abramovitz plays the cornet and founded the group in 2008. He performs vocals and arranges songs for the band. Other full-time members are: “Pretty” Ricky Cole who plays guitar and banjo, Jeff Schwartz, on bass and tuba and Lisa McKenzie on drums.

In it’s fifth year, KC Jazz Vespers is free and open to the public. Each month it features 100 minutes of live professional jazz in a concert setting. A free-will offering is taken between the band’s two acts to support the band. A nonsectarian inspirational talk is offered by the pastor between the band’s acts.
