Opening just  9 months ago at Town Center Plaza, Sandbox VR is a virtual reality hotspot that brings families closer together the old-fashioned way: by making them work in close proximity to (virtually) hunt down and destroy hordes of zombies.

Sandbox VR, 4845 W. 117 St., offers many different games and challenges to experience, but the top pick is “Deadwood Valley,” which offers a range of weaponry (shotguns, magnum pistols, assault rifles and more) to save a town overrun by the walking dead. Headsets and vibrating vests help alert you to everything from earthquakes to dragon attacks in other games.

Based in Hong Kong, the franchise employs state-of-the-art 3-D printing technology to manufacture “weapons” for all of their games (also made in-house). In September, the company launched a partnership with Netflix, to create a game based on the popular show Squid Game. Leawood Sandbox manager Garet Blankman says the “kids are eating the game up,” and it’s already their most played game.

With hours that stretch to 11 pm or 12 pm each day of the week, there’s time to round up friends, get suited up and enter a fully immersive environment of action and adventure. For more information, go to Sandboxvr.com/leawood for gift cards.
