Dorothy Faye Mantzey Maupin, age 98, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on December 16, 2023. She was born December 1, 1925, to Edward and Edna Mantzey, their 10th child. Dorothy had a happy childhood on the family farm with her parents, six brothers and four sisters.
In 1946 Dorothy met Charles William Maupin while attending Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg, Missouri. They were married on May 24, 1947. Dorothy and Charles were career public school teachers. Dorothy retired from the Hickman Mills School District in 1979. Charles passed away on November 6, 2009.
Dorothy loved travel and enjoyed numerous adventures with family and friends. Favorite memories include trips to the Bahamas, Hawaii, California and a wonderful three weeks in Europe with a National Teachers tour group.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters: Rita Faye Staires of Wimberley, TX; Ruth Ann Levine (Sanford) of Leawood, KS; and Rebekah Joy Maupin of Honolulu, HI; four grandchildren, Susan (Staires) Pfeiffer; Aaron Levine; Kathryn (Staires) Moore; and Jennifer (Levine) Lopez, and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothy will be remembered with love.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 30, at 10 am at McGilley and George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Rd., in Grandview. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the New Salem Cemetery, ℅ Darrell Whitney, 206 Warren Road, El Dorado, KS 67842.
