On New Year’s Eve, just before 9 pm, police officers were called to the intersection of 107th and Oakland on an emergency medical call.
Passers by saw a victim down on the ground with unknown injuries and called for help.
On arrival officers located the victim, a 45-year-old Black male identified as Terry E. Anthony, unresponsive down on the sidewalk on the north side of 107th St.
Officers summoned Emergency Medical Services to the scene who declared the victim deceased at that time.
Investigation indicates the victim appears to have been shot.
Detectives are canvassing for witnesses and crime scene investigators are processing the scene to gather evidence and get any information about what led up to the shooting.
The victim was located approximate a block east of the Seven Eleven at 107th and Blue Ridge Blvd and a few blocks west from the Clark Ketterman Athletic Field.
This makes for the 182nd homicide of 2023, outpacing the city’s previous homicide record of 179 set in 2000. In south Kansas City. In south Kansas City, it marks the 12th homicide of the year, the lowest since 2019 when there were 8 recorded homicides. During the pandemic, those number increased to 22, 22 and 17 in years 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectably in south KC.

The Kansas City Police Department is committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
KCPD is working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
