Warming Centers have opened in south Kansas City

While Community Centers will offer a location for individuals to be out of the cold, they do not offer food, beds, or services. Those services are available through Access Sites.

Three warming centers have opened in the south Kansas City area as well as throughout the metro area.

The City of Kansas City is responding with their Extreme Weather Plan and offering shelter and warmth to those in need. Parks & Recreation Community Centers are open across the city to help people stay indoors. While Community Centers will offer a location for individuals to be out of the cold, they do not offer food, beds, or services. These resources are offered through Zero KC’s Extreme Weather Plan.

Hillcrest Community Center

Overnight Shelters

Kansas City’s Community Centers become warming centers when temperatures drastically fall. However, community centers DO NOT offer food, beds, or services. If you or another person need one of these resources, please go to a Zero KC Access Site listed below. A staff person will take you to the shelter that provides food, beds and other services.

KCATA OPERATIONS: KCATA offers Zero Fare transit throughout the City to ensure people can reach their destination safely. Use your KCATA Transit App to track delays, visit RideKC.org or call (816) 221-0660.

STREETCAR OPERATIONS: The KC Streetcar will operate with regular Monday & Tuesday hours of 6:00 a.m. – Midnight unless conditions deteriorate, and it is unsafe to operate. For more information on Streetcar operations click here.

Kansas City North Community Center

Facilities include a full-sized gymnasium, cardio and weight room, auditorium, kitchen, meeting rooms, pottery studio, exercise room and tennis courts adjacent to the building.

Line Creek Community Center and Ice Arena is a 34,000 square-foot family recreation center located in the of Frank Vaydik Park surrounded by woods and bordered by Line Creek. To the south of the center are two baseball diamonds and a soccer field. To the north is the ever-popular KC Northern Miniature Railroad.

Garrison Community Center is a 100+ year-old historical landmark located on the northeast edge of downtown Kansas City, just east of the City Market on Fifth Street. The center offers a variety of fun activities and events in which to participate and exciting clubs to join.
