Summer camps are a great time for children to hone in on a special interest while having a lot of fun doing it. For parents, it’s an appreciated break. This year, there are more summer camps than ever in the south Kansas City area and many, many more throughout the metro area.

Barstow’s Summer at Barstow

Barstow offers hundreds of summer camp choices in academics, arts and hobbies, cooking, field trips, sports, and STEAM learning for ages 3-14. Locations vary between the Barstow campus and the IDEA Space facility. Camp hours include the morning, afternoon, and extended days into the evening. May 28 – August 9. Eagles Gymnastics Super Summer Camp

Kid-inspired, campers will have a jam-packed summer full of gymnastics and tumbling. Activities will include ninja obstacle courses and rope climbing along with lessons in science, cooking, yoga, outdoor fun, and open gym time. Camp runs June 3 – August 9, ages 5 and up. Hickman Mills Schools Summer Camp
Keep your skills strong as you dive into the world of project-based learning. Students K-12th Grade will discover an educational approach where creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration take center stage. Whether it’s building robots, crafting digital stories, or exploring scientific mysteries, project-based learning makes every lesson an adventure. Three sessions: June 3-28, July 8-19, July 8-26. Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium Camps

The Kansas City Zoo and its new Aquarium will provide a fun backdrop for animal antics, fun games, crafts, experiments and animal encounters. Four-day camps (Monday – Thursday) are available all summer long. A three-day camp (July 1-3) for 8th – 12th grade students. Single-day camps are also available on select Fridays throughout the summer. And new Friday Half-Day camps are available for PreK students. June 3- August 16. The Martin City Melodrama & Grandview Parks and Rec are partnering for the first time with a theatre camp for summer of 2024. This camp will create an original vaudeville show with student actors, plus teach the fine art of throwing a creme pie. Also included will be senior pup pawformers from area shelters in the show.
