Four individuals and the 1993 boys soccer team were inducted last month into the Center High School Athletic Hall of Fame at the high school.
The individual honorees or the person accepting for them shown left to right on the front row are:
Roland Presley, brother of the late Dalton Presley who was inducted posthumously. Presley graduated in 2011 and was a state champion heavyweight wrestler and an outstanding football player.
Aletha Penn graduated in 1994 and earned All-State recognition as a basketball player at Center before becoming a two-year starter at Florida State University. As a coach she led the 2003-04 Center High School girls basketball team to the team’s first appearance in the State Final Four.
Wendy Jacobson graduated in 1987 and earned All-State honors all four years at Center in shot put and won the state championship in 1986. She continued her athletic career at Baylor University and the University of Missouri in shot put, discus and javelin.
Janice Mackey graduated in 1982 and was an outstanding softball and basketball player. Her batting average was .484 over three years, earning her All-Conference honors all three years. She continued her softball career at the University of Oklahoma.
The boys soccer team in the rear had a record of 26-3, advancing to the finals of the state tournament where they earned 2nd place – the highest finish in school history. Seven team members earned All-State honors, and three of them played Division 1 college soccer.
