KCMO residents from all parts of the city may properly dispose of many types of unwanted items for free during a recently announced drop-off date in the east parking lot of Ruskin High School, 7000 E. 111th St., from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 29.

The drop-off site will accept bulky items such as old furniture; trash; leaves & brush; tires with or without rims; and household hazardous waste including automotive products such as antifreeze & used oil; batteries; household cleaning products; lawn & garden products such as pesticides & herbicides; and paint.

The drop-off will be conducted by the KCMO Public Works Department and is sponsored by 5th District City Councilmembers Darrell Curls and Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw.

This is somewhat of a make-up day since the truck that was supposed to be at Ruskin High School to accept household hazardous waste as part of the 5th District spring cleanup on May 18 went to another location due to miscommunication. although all other trash trucks were at the site as planned, and persons in about 250 vehicles were able to drop-off all their unwanted items.

Another drop-off only for household hazardous waste which is often difficult to properly dispose of will be at Ruskin High School on Saturday, July 27 from 8 a.m. to noon.
