On September 18th, the Home Preservation team from Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City and more than 100 committed volunteers from the Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors held a one-day blitz of home improvement projects within the boundaries of the Marlborough Community Coalition (MCC). This initiative is the result of a year of advocacy on the part of the Coalition. MCC plays a crucial role in seeking out and collaborating with agencies to invest minor home repair resources and expertise in the Marlborough area.
Homeowners who applied for assistance with landscaping, exterior painting and minor exterior repairs, will benefited from the one-day event, while more significant repairs listed on their applications and others’ will be addressed at a later date. More than 20 homeowners in the area completed applications for a variety of interior and exterior repairs.

“This truly highlights a need that is present in our community for home repairs, small and large, to keep housing dignified for our neighbors throughout their lives,” stated Diane Hershberger, Executive Director at the Marlborough Community Coalition. “We are thrilled that Habitat KC has agreed to invest in Marlborough; our collaboration reflects MCC’s mission to be a catalyst for a healthy, vibrant, and resilient community. Together, we’re making a positive impact in the lives of our neighbors.”
Habitat KC’s Rock the Block took place at eight homes in the Marlborough area (from Gregory to 89th Street and from Troost Avenue to US 71 Hwy). Marlborough residents and community leaders from south Kansas City are encouraged to thank the volunteers for their efforts to improve the lives of so many neighbors.
