For now, Martin City has cancelled its Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony that was planned for Thursday, November 21, at 6 pm at the Rosehill Garden event space, 311 E 135 St.
Instead, expect to see the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony the first week of December, if all goes well.
According to Martin City CID Manager Vickie Wolverton, the cancellation is due to a delayed Christmas tree order. As of this today, there is still no update on when the organizers can expect to receive the tree. “We’re just waiting to hear,” says Wolverton. The 18-foot tall Christmas tree will sport a 3-foot tall star at its top. The tree is artificial, a benefit to the community says Wolverton. “We won’t have this problem in the future,” she assures. Last year, Martin City’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony was also cancelled due to Christmas tree difficulties.
This year, the ceremony’s location at Rosehill Gardens, which is set far from the street, will not only be a stunning one, but a safe one, according to Wolverton.
The event includes elementary school children from the St. Thomas More Choir and a visit from Santa Claus who will flip the switch that illuminates the new Christmas tree. For more information, be sure to follow martincity.org/holiday-lighting.
