Main Street Theater presents a Christmas comedy, In-laws, Outlaws and Other People (That Should Be Shot) by Steve Franco. The show runs for three weekends beginning December 6th – 22nd. Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m.
In the story, the Baldwin family gathers for their annual Christmas Eve dinner. While Janet Baldwin is stranded at the airport during a snowstorm, her husband hosts the rest of the family. Once everyone is assembled, uninvited guests arrive. High-strung Tony and his dim-witted sidekick Vinny find themselves in need of a place to hide after robbing a liquor store. Will the zany members of the family make them wish they’d chosen a different house? Will the family find sympathy and caring for their captors? Once the police arrive, the story takes an interesting twist.
“It just would not be a Christmas story without a heartfelt message at the end and this play has that, too”, says Director Pam Powell.
Main Street Theater is proud to present this as their 7th season comes to a close.
Rob and Pam Powell created the space for a new community theater on the 1906 stage in Belton’s (Original) City Hall at 512 Main Street. The theater shares the building with the Museum in the front half of the building. The entrance to the theater is on the side of the building, at 510 Main Street.
The Powells moved to Belton, Rob’s childhood home, for their retirement. With a background in community theater, Pam looked for a theater to volunteer with and found them lacking. Once they discovered the stage in the lovingly restored and maintained Old City Hall, “the rest was history”. The seasons run on the calendar year and include four shows, a comedy, drama, mystery and a Christmas play.
Adults are $18, students and seniors $15.
Details can be found online at www.MainStreetTheaterBelton.com or call 816-406-9422. Because the theater is small, reservations are strongly encouraged. All payments are at the door, cash, check or credit.
