Verbal altercation leads to woman’s death in Martin City apartment

This morning shortly before 3:50AM, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 900 block of E 134th St on a reported Welfare Check.

When officers arrived to the apartment, they located evidence of a possible disturbance that may have occurred inside. They entered the apartment to check for any victims or injured persons. While searching the apartment for anyone in need of possible assistance, an adult female was located suffering from apparent bodily trauma and unresponsive. Officers checked for any indication of life and were unsuccessful. Emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene and declared the victim deceased.

Preliminary information indicated the victim and an adult male subject were involved in a verbal altercation the turned physical.  Due to the help of the public and neighboring police agencies, detectives were able to quickly locate a male subject of interest and take him into custody for further questioning. Detectives are not looking for any additional subjects of interest at this time.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering evidence and collecting any witness statements.

This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.. Detectives are not looking for any additional subjects of interest at this time.
