Runners to hit the cold streets of Red Bridge on Saturday’s Battle of the Bean 5K

The 12th annual Battle of the Bean 5K will be held at the Red Bridge Shopping Center on Saturday, January 18 at 9am.  The annual winter event pits those who identify as Team Cocoa vs those who claim allegiance to Team Coffee and features a course that winds westward from the shopping center, across Wornall Road, through the Glen Arbor Estates neighborhood.

The Battle of the Bean 5K raises funds for the Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City, which is located near the race site. Wonderscope is the region’s only accessible, non-profit children’s museum dedicated to providing STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math – educational experiences for young children and their families.

The event is organized by Martin City-based KC Running Company.  Caleb’s Breakfast and Lunch is heading up Team Cocoa and is providing hot cocoa to race participants and Crow’s Coffee is leading the charge for Team Coffee and providing hot coffee.

Participants in the event receive a custom finishers medal and compete for age group and overall awards.  Children 8 and under can participate in the Jelly Bean Kids Run after the 5K.  The Kids Run will be run in waves based on age, running distances from 50 yards to 200 yards.

There are still participant spots available and additional volunteers are still needed for the event.  Those interested in either opportunity can register at www.battleofthebean5K.com.
