Just before 7 am, the Kansas City Fire Department responded to a reported building fire at 11515 Holmes Rd. Crews reported heavy fire from the single-story vacant assisted living facility formerly known as Waterford South. Due to the fire progression defensive operations were initiated. Grandview Fire Department was called in for assistance. Holmes Road was closed to traffic.
The bulk of the fire is now under control and crews are working on hot spots. One patient was transported for evaluation for minor lacerations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD. There were two houseless individuals who were able to evacuate.
The building is one of several around 115th and Holmes that have been boarded up for the past year and a half, awaiting plans for a townhome development.
