Main Street Theater is proud to announce the opening of their 8th season in Belton. To help snap out of the winter doldrums, the classic Neil Simon comedy The Odd Couple will open on Friday, March 7th to lift your spirits.
In the 1960s life was completely different from today. There were no computers, no cellphones and snail-mail, telegrams and landlines were the sole means of communication. Oscar, a sportswriter and Felix a newswriter for CBS News are best friends. Every Friday night they join their buddies Vinnie, Speed and Roy for their weekly poker game. The game is always at Oscar’s apartment because he is the only one divorced with an entire apartment to himself.
As the play begins, Felix is obviously missing from the game and we learn his wife has just kicked him out. She wants a divorce. Felix is a compulsive neatnik and hypochondriac and has finally driven his wife crazy. Feeling sorry for him, Oscar invites him to move in with him. Unfortunately, Oscar is an absolute slob. The new couple is doomed to “divorce” within a couple of weeks.
Rounding out the cast and adding to the hilarity of the situation are the poker buddies, Keven Keltner, Bill Van Buskirk, Tyler Krumm and Joe Bartlett and as Gwendolyn and Cecily, Kristi Hibschman and Natascha DeGuire. Actors hail from the greater Kansas City area on both sides of the state line.
Artistic Director Pam Powell is quick to share that there is so much local talent that she has cast two sets of beloved Oscar and Felix. Alan Palmer and James Brockman will perform on opening night and Nick DeGuire and Jack Rohde will perform on Saturday the 8th. The two teams will alternate shows throughout the run of the play. Also, due to great audience response a special Saturday matinee has been added to the schedule.
Showtimes are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:30 pm. One exception is a Saturday matinee at 1:30 pm on March 15th. Due to the small venue, reservations are strongly encouraged. Please call 816-406-9422 to save your seat. Main Street Theater will return the call with a confirmation. All tickets are purchased at the door: adults, $18; seniors and students $15 and special group rates are available for groups over 10.
