What happens when people from the 50s meet up with people from today through a mysterious time loop? The performance “Exit 16” takes on this interesting concept at The Arts Asylum, April 10-20.

Enter the time loop at “Exit 16”

The Arts Asylum’s new original play opens tonight and will be refined by audience feedback

The Arts Asylum presents “Exit 16,” an original play by Jamie Lin Pratt, opening on Thursday, April 10 and continuing through Sunday, April 20.

In “Exit 16”, characters from the 1950s and today are trapped in a mysterious time loop while in a small diner off an Alabama highway. They must work together despite cultural and racial divides to discover a way to break the cycle and escape to a better world.

The play challenges contemporary perspectives on race and culture using the dramatic device of time.

The play will also take a unique approach that may bring audience members back for more. Feedback will be taken from audience members after the April 10 – 14 performances. That feedback will be implemented into the storyline for performances on April 17 – 20. “Audience members can return to see what changes were made in our performances on the final weekend of the run,” says Artistic Director Korey Childs. Feedback will still be collected after the final performances as well to refine the original work.

Written and directed by Jamie Lin Pratt, a second-generation Chinese American, “Exit 16” features a cast of local talents, including Erik J Pratt (“Tom”), Jerry Tracy (“John”), Sadie Shannon (“June”), Barbara Handy (“Devon”), and Em Coffin (“Sam”).

Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees start at 2 pm. Arts Asylum is located at 824 East Meyer Blvd in Brookside. Tickets are available at www.theartsasylum.org.
