The long-awaited renovation of the Hickman Mills School District’s baseball field at Hickman Mills Middle School (formerly Hickman Mills High School) now allows Ruskin High School to play home baseball games in a District facility for the first time in 16 years.
The team was formerly forced to play in rented facilities.
The April 9 ribbon cutting celebration was led by District officials, Ruskin High School and the Hickman Mills Educational Foundation — which split funding of the renovation with the Kansas City Royals.
Donations are now being sought to renovate the separate girls softball field at the school so the Ruskin girls softball team will also be able to start playing home games when its season begins this fall.
