The beloved annual outdoor events are ramping back up. This weekend offers three in Grandview, Brookside and Belton.

Harry’s Hay Days
Grandview celebrates Harry Truman’s birthday with disco, fireworks and a good ol’ fashioned parade down Main Street. The celebration runs Friday night, May 2nd, to Saturday, May 3rd.
On Friday starting at 6 pm, the band Boogie Nights KC revives the 1970s disco era at The View Amphitheater, 13601 Byars Rd.
Spectators will see a new paved parking lot (no more gravel) at the Amphitheater in addition to 71 newly planted trees in the area.
Fireworks follow the performance at 9 pm. The event is free. Concessions and beer are available for purchase.
On Saturday starting at 11 am, Harry’s Hay Days parade begins on Main Street.
Harry Truman will make an appearance (and pose for selfies). Throughout the day, vendors, food trucks, artists, and live music will fill the street. Children can enjoy a petting zoo, balloon artist, bounce house and face painting.
This year the parade marshal is Don Armacost. Every year, winner of the Civic Leadership Award gets to be grand marshal of the parade. Mayor and Board of Aldermen selected Armacost, and his late wife Wendy, as winners of the 2024 Civic Leadership Award. Armacost owns Peterson Manufacturing and the Armacost Car Museum, home to many not-for-profit fundraisers.
Unfortunately, this year the Truman farm house is closed. In years past, the Grandview Historical Society and National Parks Service have partnered to make sure the home is open for tours during Harry’s Hay Days (his birthday is May 8th); however, this year National Parks Service is doing a number of needed repairs to the foundation of the home. Visitors can still visit the outside of the property, but there is construction fencing surrounding the home.

Brookside Art Annual
Around 180 artists from near and far will gather at the 39th Brookside Art Annual running from Friday, May 2 to Saturday, May 4.
Along Brookside Boulevard between Meyer and 63rd Street, there will be artists exhibits, food vendors and entertainment for the children.
The 2025 featured artist is digital artist Michael Cherepak of Lake Tapawingo, MO. His floral imagery was chosen for the Art Annual’s posters and other 2025 promotional material.
The Art Annual runs 5-9 pm on Friday, 9am – 10 pm on Saturday, and 11am to 5 pm on Sunday. For more information, visit brooksideartannual.com.

Belton’s Third Cinco is on the 4th
Cinco de Mayo on Main returns to downtown Belton on Sunday, May 4 from 1 to 10 pm. There will be shopping from local vendors, food trucks and performances from Mexican folk dancers and other musicians. Mariachi Fuego Band will play from 4:45 to 7 pm and the Steel Road band plays 8 to 10 pm.
This is the third year for the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration in downtown Belton. Learn more at www.downtownbeltonmain.com.
