Workers have cleared trees along a wide swath of woodlands at Minor Park as they prepare to extend the Blue River Greenway from where it currently ends near the tennis courts south to Blue River Road, just north of Martha Truman Road.
The extension will be a 10-foot-wide path that meets ADA accessibility standards. The new segment is being built through a partnership of Kansas City Parks and Recreation, Jackson County Parks and Recreation, and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
When completed in December 2025, it will be part of the Blue River Trail that has been decades in the making. The goal is to develop the trail from the Blue River headwaters near the Overland Park Arboretum in Johnson County to where it empties into the Missouri River east of downtown KCMO. Segments are being designed and built as funding becomes available.
