Leawood Dog Park reopens May 15

“We promise you and your furry pal will love the ‘pupgrades.'”

Leawoof Dog Park has been closed since the end of March for improvements. When it reopens on May 15 (weather permitting), visitors will find a new 6-foot-wide concrete path encircling the large dog play area.

Alongside the one-quarter-mile path will be a new bench with a plaque honoring Lou and Kurt Rasmussen. This father and son pair donated $25,000 apiece toward the project. Lou is a former Leawood councilmember who helped design the dog park when he served as a liaison to the city’s park advisory board about 10 years ago.

Also opening soon are new restrooms with a water bottle filler tap. These will be located north of the parking lot used by dog owners and soccer game families.

“We know this temporary closure might be a ‘paws’ in your pup’s routine,” posted the Leawood Parks & Recreation Department on Facebook. “But we promise you and your furry pal will love the “pupgrades.”

Leawoof is at the eastern edge of Leawood City Park, 10601 Lee Blvd. It features separate, fenced fields for both small dogs and large dogs, plus dog water fountains and a hose-off area.
