Apartment building catches fire at 112th and McGee

The building was empty at the time of the fire.  There were no injuries.

At 6:48 pm, fire fighters from the Kansas City and Grandview fire departments responded to a report of fire at a vacant three-story apartment building at 11213 McGee in south Kansas City. The building, part of Coach House Apartments,  has been “under construction” for over two years, according to neighbors.

Crews initiated a defensive operation using two aerial ladder master streams and two handlines. Once the main fire was placed under control crews entered the structure with multiple handlines for offensive operations and salvage and overhaul. Searches of the structure came back all clear.  No injuries were reported at this incident. KCFD investigators have ordered KCPD Bomb and Arson to the scene to assist in the investigation based on the structure and the nature.
