Kansas City, MO Police Department responded to a injury collision report around 9:30 am on U.S. 71 Highway.
The investigation revealed that an International truck with double trailers drifted into the second lane near the 75th Street exit, striking a maroon Ford Mustang occupying the lane. The impact caused both vehicles to strike the barrier cables. The truck continued traveling southbound through the grassy median before overturning.
The driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
The driver of the Ford was uninjured in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
Lanes of southbound 71 Highway were closed for several hours up to the Gregory exit. Lanes on the northbound side were closed to traffic at Bannister and 85th Street to facilitate removal of the truck and trailers.
