The always popular annual shredding and recycling event conducted by the nonprofit Urban Ranger Corps will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, September 6, in the parking lot of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. The church is on the northwest corner of 75th St. & Main in KCMO, and persons may access the parking lot on the north side of the church and its adjacent school from 74th Terr.

Shredding is free. Persons may bring up to five boxes or bags of their old documents which youth in the Rangers program will help unload and take to a Pro Shred truck for onsite shredding.

Recycling is free for almost all electronics and power tools, but there is a charge of $25 and up for computer monitors and televisions, depending on their size. Items accepted for no charge for recycling or proper disposal include batteries, calculators, cell phones, copiers, desktop computers, fax machines, laptops, microwaves, phones, printers, scanners, speakers, stereos, tablets, video games and accessories for these items.

The nonprofit Urban Ranger Corps works with boys and young men in middle and high school from12 to 18 years of age throughout the metropolitan area to help them achieve academic success, become involved in community service and develop appropriate life skills to become contributing and successful members of society.

“We give them hope for their future which motivates them to achieve in school and steer clear of getting in trouble,” said Urban Ranger Corps President Erik Dickinson.

The organization is celebrating 20 years of serving boys and young men in the metropolitan area with a fundraiser October 23 at the College Basketball Experience, and tax deductible donations for the group’s work at the shredding and recycling event will gratefully accepted.
