South Kansas City Fall Entertainment Guide

The cooler season brings festivals, concerts, plays, nature walks and more to enjoy. Here’s a roundup of events from around KC.

 

Kansas City Marathon

October 18
An estimated 8,000 athletes take the streets for the annual marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K events. This year’s full marathon course will close Ward Parkway in both directions as far south as 74th St.

Leawood Stage Company will produce the hit Broadway musical Be More Chill at Avila’s Goppert Theater. Tickets are $5 each.

November 20-23
Can one person’s desire for freedom and truth win out against Big Brother? Presented by Avila’s Performing Arts Department at the Goppert Theater. Tickets are $10 and $8 for seniors/students. Free for Avila students.

Bash on Byars

September 12
Grandview Chamber of Commerce presents this evening of free fun at the Grandview Amphitheater. Watch the original Ghostbusters movie on the big screen at 5 pm followed by a danceable show by JAM: Jackson and Mars starting at 7 pm. The night ends with a fireworks display. VIP tickets available.

Belton Main Street’s Fall Festival 

September 13
It’s an all-day party on Main Street in downtown Belton with live music, food trucks and free kid zone complete with petting zoo, bookmobile and lawn games. Shop local vendors and browse downtown’s sweet shops.

September 13
The shopping center celebrates its first fall festival from 11 am – 2 pm on the south Pavilion, 85th and State Line Rd. with music, face painting, pumpkin decorating and raffle giveaways.

KC Symphony Mobile Music Box outside Blue Ridge Public Library 

September 15
The traveling symphony will give a free performance at 6:30 pm outside the Blue Ridge branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library. Bring blankets or chairs for seating.

September 19

Smoking ‘n Waldo 

September 19-20
St. Elizabeth hosts the annual outdoor barbecue contest with more than 40 contestants competing for best ribs, pork, chicken and brisket. Friday night is adults only with live music. Saturday is a family atmosphere.

Oktoberfest

The German American Citizens Association presents a classic Oktoberfest celebration at Coronation of Our Lady Parish, 13000 Bennington Ave, Grandview. BoysGrow 6th Annual Farm Fest

BoysGrow invites the community for a day of fun on the farm including fishing, archery, delicious local foods, mechanical bull riding and more. Tickets are $25 ($10 for youth 13 and under). Event is 12 to 3 pm.
