Neighborhood clean ups planned for October

KCMO 5th and 6th district residents can dispose of unwanted items

This fall’s cleanups conducted by the KCMO Public Works Department and sponsored by the 5th & 6th District city council members will be on Saturdays, October 11 & 18, with six drop-off sites for unwanted items (almost all of which will be accepted for no charge) in those council districts that will be open to all KCMO residents from 8 a.m. to noon both days.

5th District Cleanup

The 5th District cleanup will be October 11, and the drop-off site in the rear parking lot of Ruskin High School, 7000 E. 111th St., will accept the widest variety of items since it will take household hazardous waste such as automotive products, batteries, household cleaners, insecticides & pesticides, lawn & garden products, light bulbs & paint.

Both the Ruskin site and the Center Academy for Success site, 8434 Paseo, will accept trash & bulky items such as old furniture, leaves & brush and tires with & without rims and provide free on-site document shredding. They will also accept electronics for recycling including computers & networking equipment, copiers, fax machines, home audio & video equipment, printers & scanners for no charge, and CRT monitors for a $5 fee, LCD TVs for a $20 fee, CRT TVs for a $30 fee and projection TVs for a $50 fee.

There also will be a drop-off site at Southeast High School, 3500 E. Meyer Blvd., that will accept trash & bulky items, leaves & brush and tires with & without rims and at 8131 Indiana that will only accept leaves & brush and trash.

6th District Cleanup

The 6th District Cleanup will be October 18 with drop-off sites at First Baptist Church of Kansas City, 100 W. Red Bridge Rd., and at South Broadland Presbyterian Church, 7850 Holmes Rd., both of which will accept leaves & brush, trash & bulky items and tires with & without rims and offer free on-site shredding.

Both sites also will accept computers & networking equipment and home audio & video equipment for recycling for no charge, and the First Baptist site also will accept copiers, fax machines, printers & scanners for recycling for no charge.

There is a $5 fee for CRT monitors, a $20 fee for LCD TVs and a $50 fee for projection TVs at both sites. There is a $30 fee for CRT TVs at the First Baptist site and a $30 fee for CRT TVs 26 inches or less and a $50 fee for CRT TVs 27 inches or more at the South Broadland site.
