Prepare to Party! The Glasshouse at River Oaks is open

Former golf course club house transformed into luxury event space

By Kathy Feist

It was only a year ago when real estate developers Jorge and Marianna Hernandez purchased the River Oaks Golf Club, near 150 Highway and Byars Road in Grandview. While their master plan includes developing the 127-acre golf course into housing, their first goal has been to convert the club house into a luxurious event space.

They have accomplished that.

At the October 18th grand opening, hundreds of cars jammed the parking lot in order to see what the young couple had accomplished in the past year and a half. They were not disappointed.

Jorge and Marianna Hernandez along with their two children cut the ribbon in celebration of the grand opening of the Glasshouse at River Oaks.

In addition to the renovated club house, the Hernandez’s have added a Glasshouse banquet hall, a European-inspired arbour, artfully landscaped lawn and patio. In all, there are about five different options for a party.

Added highlights are bridal and groom suites available for overnight stays.

Here’s the quick tour:

The 7,000 square-foot brick club house, built in 1973, has been painted white. A new porch with French doors, pillars and Chevron laid brick porch set a European tone.

Inside, to the left is the Fireplace Room, with light oak floors, white interior, and plenty of windows. Crystal chandeliers hang like grapes on a vine over a long wooden buffet table.

Greenery flanks a large white fireplace along the wall. The room is available for small parties or as a buffet room for the adjoining ballroom.

To the right of the entrance is the ballroom, with a similar aesthetic (light oak floor, plenty of windows). The open room can seat 160 guests or 350 standing.

Still at the entryway of the clubhouse, are stairs leading up and down from the main floor. Upstairs is the Luxe Bridal Retreat with spacious five-seat vanity, two bathrooms, and a white-toned Bridal Suite with queen-sized bed.

Downstairs is the Lounge with a television, coffee bar, infrared sauna, and a Grooms Den set in gray tones with a queen size bed and foosball table.

From the basement, one can walk out to the garden. But it’s more impressive to see the grounds from the top.

The back balcony off the ballroom faces the setting sun and overlooks a luscious green lawn and twinkling glass banquet hall.

Wide stairs lead to the lawn, which can seat 350 guests for an outdoor wedding.

The patio outside the Glasshouse can also be used as an outdoor wedding venue.

Now comes the Glasshouse, for which it is named. With tables decorated for dinner, chandeliers twinkling from above, cushioned white couches, a long custom-made black bar, and a lit up mirrored dance floor and stage, the atmosphere is nothing short of magical. The 6000 square foot space can hold 350 seated guests.

One might think the tour is finished. But that would be a mistake.

Hidden on the north end of the club house is a European-styled arbour. The outdoor space features a long brick patio and wooden tables underneath a canopy of vines, perfect for a brunch, luncheon or dress rehearsal dinner.

While there are plenty of venue options at River Oaks, only one party is scheduled at a time.

The Glasshouse at River Oaks is located at 14204 St. Andrews Dr. Because it is situated within a residential neighborhood, parties must end by 10 pm. Prices range from $6400 to $7200 depending on venue space and time of year.
