Raytown expands its animal services

Grand opening with adoptable pets on November 20

The City of Raytown has purchased the former Midwest Animal ResQ Building at 10312 E. 63rd Street, where it will relocate the Animal Services department to the new shelter space to house stray dogs and cats.

Two new staff will be hired: an animal control officer and administrative staff person.

“This new space will enhance our capacity to care for animals awaiting reunification with their owners or adoption into new homes,” said Raytown City Administrator Diane Egger.

“By broadening our staff and services, we are strengthening our ability to safeguard the health and well-being of both residents and animals alike.”

The City’s improvements to the facility will make it ADA compliant, along with upgraded flooring and security systems and repairs to the parking lot.

A Grand Opening celebration is Thursday, November 20. The event starts with ribbon cutting at 2 pm, followed by tours. Adoptable pets are available all day.

For the past two years, Raytown has sent stray animals to Laurel Pet Resort. A spokesperson for the city says they will continue to partner with Laurel for overflow situations.

Those who are interested may donate food, blankets, large kongs and treats (no financial donations are accepted). Volunteers are also needed.
