Man fatally shot at 70th and Prospect

There were numerous people inside the store when the victim and a suspect had an interaction that escalated to gunfire.

On Tuesday at 8:40pm officers were dispatched to the convenience store in the 7000 block of prospect on a shooting call.

On arrival officers were led inside the store where they located an adult male shooting victim, unresponsive on the ground.

Officers rendered aid and called for EMS to come to the scene. EMS declared the victim deceased here at the scene.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators began their homicide investigation. Detectives canvassed for witnesses and talked to people who were at the scene when officers initially arrived. Crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence to give detectives a better idea of what led up to the shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that there were numerous people inside the store when the victim and a suspect or suspects had an interaction that escalated, eventually to gunfire, which struck the victim.

There are not any suspects identified or in custody at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
