Tuesday night at about 10:45 PM officers were dispatched to the Village Apartments (formerly President Gardens Apartments) around the 8200 block of President Court on a sound of shots call. While officers were on the way to the area, the call was upgraded to a shooting call. 911 callers heard the sound of gunfire and believed someone had been shot at the location.
On arrival officers located an adult male shooting victim unresponsive in the parking lot there.
Officers called for EMS, who responded and transported the victim to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene to investigate and process the scene for evidence. Detectives canvassed for witnesses and spoke to people in the area at the time officers arrived.
Preliminary investigation indicates the victim had an interaction with one or more suspects in the parking lot at the apartment complex there that led to gunfire that struck the victim. The unknown suspects then left the scene.
Later in the early hours of today’s date, detectives were notified that the victim died at the hospital from his injuries. This is now a homicide investigation and the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
If anyone was in the area and heard or saw anything or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
