Kansas City shares new trash pick up schedule and airport news

The goal is to have roads cleared within 24 to 48 hours after snowfall ends.

Snow is still falling across Kansas City, and crews are continuing to plow and treat streets. Road conditions will remain challenging while snow continues to fall, and everyone is encouraged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution on the roads.

After pre-treating roads over the last two nights, City crews have now transitioned to 24/7 operations to respond to this storm. The goal is to have roads cleared within 24 to 48 hours after snowfall ends, and teams are working steadily across the city to keep priority routes passable.

To continue prioritizing snow operations and driver safety, Solid Waste services like trash, recycling, leaf & brush and bulky item collection will not take place on Monday, December 1 or Tuesday, December 2. Monday’s services are cancelled, and Tuesday’s services are postponed by one day. Residents with a Monday collection date will be allowed to set out extra bags on their next collection date (Monday, December 8, 2025) to make up for the cancelled day of service.

The Aviation Department is intermittently closing the airfield at MCI Airport for snow clearing. Each clearing lasts around 20 minutes, and no planes can land or take off during a clearing. This will continue until snowfall subsides.
