Hickman Mills Educational Foundation Board members and other volunteers spent a cold Thanksgiving evening recently greeting and collecting donations from a steady stream of families with children and other visitors of all ages driving through the 38th annual Christmas in the Park.
The animated Christmas lighting display around Longview Lake is open every night from 5:30 to 10 pm Sunday through Thursday and from 5:30 to 11 pm, Friday through Saturday. It can be accessed by turning south on View High Dr. from I-470 and then turning west on Longview Rd. Christmas in the Park runs through New Year’s Eve.
The Jackson County Parks + Rec Department puts on the free annual event featuring 200 animated Christmas lighting displays with over one million lights. Each of the 36 charities selected to participate in this year’s event get $1,000 from the county for their efforts.
The Educational Foundation uses its funds for scholarships for Ruskin High School graduating seniors, for grants to teachers for classroom enhancements and for other special projects to enhance student learning and development. Learn more at www.hickmanmills.org/community/httpshmedfoundationorg
