Wendy Aguayo and Oscar Moreno are such coffee enthusiasts, they often experimented with espresso recipes at home. But they also hit coffee shops across the metro.
That’s how they learned that the Grandview area lacked a Latino coffee shop.
Their Cafe Provecho opened in September at 1523 Main St., just west of bustling Interstate 49.
Their top-seller is Mexican Mocha with Chocolate Abuelita imported from Mexico, espresso, oat milk and vanilla soft top. Another popular drink is the Carmelita with espresso, caramel apple, cajeta, cinnamon, nutmeg and oat milk (the caramel also is imported from Mexico). They use Messenger Coffee.
Cafe Provecho also serves lattes, cortado, cappuccino, americano drinks, teas, chai (including a caramel apple), matcha, and hot chocolate.

It offers scratch-made French and Mexican-inspired pastries from Aurora Cafe & Bakery. Aguayo and Moreno want to add more Mexican food such as tamales. They are also looking for local vendors.
Moreno owns a flooring business, and the couple had enough funds to take on a second operation for Aguayo to oversee. They spent 18-months on the build-out, going through their nest egg and then funding the operation as they went along so they didn’t go into debt. The landlord only charged half of the rent during this time.
The couple liked the location’s large windows, which let in lots of natural light, and they put a counter and high top chairs along the front so customers can look out on Main Street.
They have two children – Valentino, 4, and Miliano, 5-months–so they want to make the coffee shop family-friendly.
They are partnering with the Grandview Branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library to have a Children’s Storytime interactive session. The first event is scheduled for 12:30 to 1 p.m. December 9 with a winter-theme book and other activities.
“We are here to serve all communities,” Aguayo said. “But the Hispanic community comes a lot. They are able to order in Spanish and they like that. We want to open another location in a diverse community.”
