Sure, there are plenty of restaurants celebrating Cinco de Mayo. But Downtown Belton is celebrating in a big way.
On May 5, from 4 to 10 pm, Mexican folk dancers, live band performances, Day of the Dead face painters, food and drink trucks, and vendors will take the celebration to Downtown Main Street.
Among the live bands performing are the Latin band Mariachi Fuego, Steel Road Band (Tex-Mex music) and the Belton High School Jazz Band.
Visitors can help choose the winner of a salsa competition featuring recipes from participating restaurants.
This is the second year for Belton’s Cinco de Mayo. “Last year went really well,” says Art Ruiz, an organizer of the event. “People have been asking about the next one. So we’re going to give it another go!”
Ruiz says this year will be geared more for adults than last year, which featured a few children’s activities. “We discovered the two [age groups] didn’t mix well,” he says.
