Restoration Exploration @ Heartland Overlook Preserve

October 26, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join Heartland Conservation Alliance, Native Lands Restoration Collaborative, and local artist and KC Art Institute Professor, Julie Farstad, in an immersive, creative experience at the Heartland Overlook Preserve (HOP)! This special place is undergoing extensive restoration work to protect the oak-hickory woodland on site and provide publicly accessible trails to the community. It’s quickly becoming a great learning space for local adventurers and students. If you’ve never visited the HOP, put this gathering on your calendar!

There will be several activities to engage in throughout the event including guided ecology walks, native plantings, educational art projects, and more. Visitors will be encouraged to slow down, look closer, and think broader. We will also guide volunteers through the process of removing invasive honeysuckle, planting native species, and seeding native grasses throughout the restoration area. Come learn alongside experienced land stewards and gain a new appreciation for this invaluable woodland landscape.

Come ready to play in nature at this family friendly event! All ages are welcome and encouraged to get their hands dirty through these fun, interactive, educational activities. No experience needed – all training and tools will be provided. If you come with prior experience, feel free to bring your favorite loppers, gloves, shovels, etc. We’re looking forward to sharing this time with you on the land!
