After 25 years running the Sandtrap Bar & Grill, 13037 Holmes, Carl and Bev Tutorino have sold the restaurant. Carl will retire, and Bev will stay on working for the new owners, who she described as “just wonderful.”
Rob Maloney, John Miller, Michael Depalma and Chad Wilson will take over on October 14. Most of the original menu items will remain, using Carl’s recipes and continue the same favorite weeknight specials, such as chicken fried chicken and meatloaf.
The new owners will open on Sundays and have plans to expand the patio. They bring restaurant experience from around the city, as former owners of The Brooksider, and current run Maloney’s Sports Bar & Grill in Overland Park and The Landing Eatery & Pub in Liberty.
Carl and Bev purchased the Sandtrap on October 1, 1999. Their cook Howard Sudduta has been with them for 24 years, and like Bev will remain on staff under the new ownership.
Carl attributes the 25 years of success to Bev and their daughters, Ashley and Haley. “During COVID, I was ready to close up. They told me they would figure it out. We made it, thanks to their dedication,” he said.
This October, the Tutorinos will go out with a bang with two final parties at the restaurant: a 25th anniversary bash and then a private celebration for Carl’s 50th year class reunion at Rockhurst High School.
Seeing his customers is what Carl will miss most. “They are like family. I have some customers who have been with us since day one.”
During his retirement, Carl plans to golf and spend time with grandchildren.
