Proposed plans for Grandview’s Phase Three of the Blue Ridge Boulevard Corridor Redevelopment will most likely include two roundabouts: one at the entrance to Truman Marketplace and one at Harry S. Truman Drive, and bicycle lanes. It will add a left turn lane and reduce traffic to one lane each way.
Traffic lights will be eliminated at those intersections by the use of roundabouts.
Grandview recently adopted a new traffic “calming” measure to address speeding on four streets that experience most of the accidents: Blue Ridge Blvd., the Main Street and Highgrove corridor, the I-49 east outer road and Grandview Road from Blue Ridge to the city limits.
Level One of the program includes such items as better lighting, speed feedback signs and speed reduction.
Level Two includes roundabouts, pedestrian refuge islands, raised crosswalks, bulbouts and enhanced enforcement.
Speed bumps are not part of this program because they impede first responders and snow removal. There is a proposal to install left turn lanes or a roundabout at the intersection of Highgrove Road and Byers Rd.
The Traffic Calming Program will be implemented city wide.
