Annual Bike Ride through Christmas in the Park
By John Sharp
The annual “Trip the Light Fantastic” 4.5-mile bike ride through the animated Christmas lighting displays in Jackson County’s Longview Lake Park will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, in the parking lot by the Frank White, Jr., Softball Complex, 3901 SW Longview Park Dr.
Registration is free for those who register by Sunday, November 18. Cyclists can register online at www.makeyourdayhere.com/lightfantastic or in person from 2-4 p.m. that Sunday at the packet pick-up event at Gusto Coffee Bistro, 3390 SW Fascination Dr., Lee’s Summit. On-site registration the day of the event is $5 and begins at 5 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded before the ride gets underway for the best lit/holiday decorated bike and the best holiday dressed rider.
Parental discretion is advised for riders under 10 years old since the course is dark and hilly in places. Headlights and helmets are required to participate.
There will be carolers at the finish line, and complimentary coffee and hot chocolate from the Bistro and photos with Santa compliments of the Bicycle Shack will be offered to cyclists.
Participants may get to the ride’s starting point by going south on View High Dr. from I-470, turning right (west) at SW Longview Rd. and following the signs to the parking lot.
