Coffee for Veterans

Previously homeless veterans living in the tiny homes that are part of Veterans Community Project’s Veterans Village on the south side of E. 89th St. just east of Troost will get free coffee for their coffee makers beginning June 27 through a new partnership with Elevate Gourmet Brands’ Green Beans Coffee.

The partnership was facilitated by south Kansas City resident Elliott Threatt, owner of E&K Retail that partners with Elevate Gourmet Brands at two concession locations at Newark Liberty International Airport.  E&K also operates concessions at KCI Airport and other airports around the country.

Green Beans Coffee has cafes at many military bases in the Mideast, Japan and the United States, as well as at many U.S. airports.  It offers the online “Cup of Joe for a Joe” program that allows persons to send a personal message and buy a cup of its premium coffee for $2.50 for randomly selected service members stationed overseas at bases with Green Beans cafes.

“We are very excited about our new partnership with Green Beans Coffee and know that residents of the Village will appreciate access to a delicious cup of coffee whenever they please,” said Brandonn Mixon, co-founder of Veterans Community Project.

There currently are 26 occupied tiny homes at Veterans Village, and 23 more plus a 5,000 square foot community center are currently under construction and expected to be completed by October.

Veterans Community Project hopes to replicate the services it is providing here for homeless veterans in other cities.
