Backpacks filled with school supplies, as well as books, food, feminine hygiene products and other giveaways will be provided to students living in KCMO and their families at Operation Backpack from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 7, in Swope Park.
Persons should go east on 67th St. from Swope Parkway, and people will direct them to the event organized by City Councilwoman Ryana Parks-Shaw in partnership with Giving Hope & Help and a host of community sponsors.
Free gun locks will be provided to families by Grandparents Against Gun Violence.
Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations also will be provided by Truman Medical Centers to anyone 12 and older, but minors will need the permission of a parent or legal guardian accompanying them. The second dose will be scheduled for a location convenient for each person.
